We produce crown molding for architects, contractors, installers and homeowners from any wood species as well as MDF (medium density fiberboard), plastic, flexible trim, and foam in any style or size up to 12″. Popular wood choices are mahogany, maple, poplar, red oak, cherry, and pine but many others are available.

How to Use Our Molding Search Tool
To begin a molding search, use the drop down menu (currently “Crown”) to select the type of molding. To see all available moldings in all sizes simply click “Start Search”. You can narrow the selection by entering dimensions in the fields.

Not sure what width, thickness or height or projection to enter? Call us at (888) 209-9307 – or contact us.

How is Crown Measured? good millwork Crown Measurements Crown Moldings: Selecting, Measuring, Installing There are four measurements to be aware of when looking at a piece of crown. The width is the dimension at it’s widest point and the thickness is the thickest dimension when lying flat. The height is measured from the bottom of the crown where it meets the wall to the ceiling and the projection from where the face meets the ceiling back to the wall. What is the Spring Angle on Crown Molding? Crown Molding Spring Angle Crown Moldings: Selecting, Measuring, Installing The angle of the gap between the backside of the crown molding and the wall is called the spring angle and can be measured using a protractor. Crown molding angle is usually represented by two numbers of which the most common types are 45/45 and 52/38. What is the Bevel? The bevel is the tilt of the blade being used to make the cut. What is the Miter? The miter is the angle on the saw’s table. Which End of the Crown Molding is Up? Most crown molding features two distinct sections – a common element (a flat or curved area) and a more decorative element. The common element is called the “ogee” or “Cyma Recta” and the decorative element is called the “dentil.” In most installations, the dentil is considered the bottom part of the molding. What if my Wall is Longer than my Moulding? A scarf joint is used when you need to make an in-line straight connection between two pieces of crown molding. When cut properly, one section of crown molding will fit seamlessly over the other, like an overlapping joint. What Size Nails Should I Use to Install Crown Molding? For most installations 2″ finishing nails work best because drywall is usually 1/2″ thick and common crown moldings are 3/4″ or less thick. 2″ nails will allow the nail to enter the stud securely but prevent accidentally hitting any electrical wires which by code are installed along the center of the stud.

To me it has always been these crown moldings and the doors that are creating good accent for the overall projection of the interior of the house. Very informative post.

Speaking of the victorian-style decor, placing crown molding in a bathroom along with a classic clawfoot bathtub would make for an amazing renovation for anyone going for that look.

I think there are two common ways to fashion inside corners. One is to use a compound miter saw to cut the ends of the corner pieces along two axes simultaneously. The other, called coping, is a two step process, first to cut a simple miter and then to use a coping saw to undercut the miters.

Self-installing crown molding is not recommended for the casual DIY-er unless you are familiar with a compound Miter saw, which, IMO is the best tool to use for them. Remember that there is no ‘best brand’ for types of saw to use. Instead, the size of saw needed will be determined by the size of crown molding and trim.

That was a very informative article! Thanks for sharing. Moldings indeed add so much more substance to any room. I remember having some moldings installed in the flat I shared with some buddies back when I was a fresh grad from college. The place looked s bit sleeker and homey after they were installed.
