The exterior molding adds character to the house and hence, makes the whole place looks warmer, lived-in and more appealing generally, at first glance. That is the same reason why repainting or remodeling can make a house sell more easily and for more money. It’s the first impression that it gives visitors.

Since my wife and I decided to sell our house, we thought to add a little bit of curb appeal to make it more attractive to buyers. We read a study that for every $2,000 spent on exterior mouldings, it would bring $10,000 in return. While it wasn’t exactly that number, it was fairly close and we sold our house within 2 weeks for more than we were asking. Our home is constructed of brick and we used mouldings around our windows and doors as well as corner accents. We are very happy with the way it turned out and plan on using it on our new home on stone

Exterior molding is what gives a building its distinct character! Think about the intricate carvings in La Alhambra or the shapely curves on top of a Thai temple. They are the epitome of architectural decoration reflecting the uniqueness of a culture.

Plan the design of the exterior molding. Determine where on the house the molding will enhance its curb appeal — along the porch railings, around the windows and doors, decorating the support pillars or trimming the roof support.
