Good Millwork: Crown Installation in 8 EASY Steps

by Good Millwork on August 20, 2009

in General

Just to get the record straight…“YES, we did survive Tropical Storm Claudette.” Don’t worry Mom, we didn’t execute our Evan Almighty disaster plan building an ark from molding scrap…we even stayed dry. It’s been a good week.

We’ve hit on crown molding from just about every angle (literally). Historical, architectural, super sized, decorative, fire rated, flexible, curved, mahogany, polystyrene, stained or primed, crown mouldings verses crown moldings…the list goes on and on. What we HAVEN’T covered is installation. It’s time to suit up, turn on the lights and bring our “A” game.

We’re raving fans of Abrams and Villa, the “This Old House” gang, and there aren’t many that cover the basics better. A great picture with simple steps makes cutting miters, coping inside joints and building outside corners attainable for the greenest weekend warrior. Its Thursday…print the tool list, put on the carpenter pants and get ready for the Depot run. Can you do it? …YES, you CAN!

Install that crown.

Those are some of the best installation instructions I have seen. The diagram and the close-up photos really take you step by step through the process of installing crown molding. Thanks.

Max,

Thanks for the compliment…but we’re in the process of going REAL deep into the installation process. If you want to get a jump on us, I suggest picking up the book by Wayne Drake.

We’re in the process of working with Mr. Drake to put together a couple of seminars and introduce our visitors to his tested techniques, installation guides and measurement tools (personally, I think I might even enjoy installing crown molding now). PS – don’t forget that we have probably close to 1000 crown molding profiles when you get ready to start your next project.

Thanks again for the visit and the comment!
