Very interesting resources…I love the historic district district of Dallas. There are some VERY cool old Victorians down there that i would love to fix up and live in some day.

Great blog post. I am huge into restoration, and no matter what anyone says new buildings just aren’t built with the same beauty and timelessness as the older homes were. I’ll take a renovated Victorian farm house over a brand new slice of suburbia any day of the week. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels this way. Very detailed resources – definitely appreciate this great post!

Hi Daniel,

Newer homes lack what old homes had and that is what creates what I believe you mean by “character”. If you find a home that is basically what you want you can add that character yourself.

Architectural moldings, unique siding, and exterior shutters can add appeal to most any home. Wherever I have lived there has always been an older community of homes that sell as soon as they hit the market – and what makes them special is that they have a lot of architectural trim.
